Teen Philanthropic Committee

Mandated by Temple Emanu-El’s Philanthropic Fund, the Teen Philanthropic Committee has a unique opportunity to help New York City.

How would you use $10,000 to help New York City?
Temple Emanu-El’s Teen Philanthropic Committee has been tasked
with just that responsibility by Temple Emanu-El’s Philanthropic Fund.

Eighth through 12th graders interested in becoming part of the committee will come together monthly to participate in the grant-making process. They will select an issue affecting New Yorkers, create a mission statement and design a grant application to be used by nonprofit organizations seeking funds. They also will participate in site visits to see what the organizations are doing and decide who is deserving of the committee’s grant. The year culminates in a check presentation ceremony.

Grantees to date have been:

Children of Bellevue (2015-2016)

Children of Promise, NYC and Harlem Educational Activities Fund (2014-2015)

East Harlem Tutorial Program and Fiver Children’s Foundation (2013-2014)

Meetings are held one Wednesday evening a month.
The first meeting will be September 14, 2016, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
